Hi, I’m Tristan — A lifeguard and swim instructor with over 10 years of experience teaching swimming lessons to people of all ages and abilities. My love for swimming began at a young age and over the years, that love has evolved into a passion for sharing that knowledge with others to help them feel confident, safe, and empowered in the water. I’ve taught hundreds of swimmers, from toddlers to adults, and specialize in adaptive aquatics, neurodiverse support, and survival swim techniques.
I started Aquanauts Swim Academy on Vancouver Island to reimagine what a swim school could be — personalized, high-quality instruction, combined with the spirit of adventure and exploration. Inspired by the limitless possibilities of both water and space, our mission is to empower swimmers of all ages to build water confidence, master safety skills, and embark on their own journey of discovery—whether it’s taking their first plunge into the water or striving for advanced goals.
I began my coaching journey 10 years ago with the Special Olympics swim program, where I witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of swimming. Seeing athletes grow in confidence, physical strength, and self-belief was incredibly powerful — and it shaped my lifelong commitment to inclusive, ability-based instruction. That experience continues to drive our work with neurodiverse swimmers and those requiring extra support to make Aquanauts a place where every swimmer is supported, encouraged, and inspired to explore their full potential.
I aim to combine foundational swim lessons with infant survival rescue techniques. Watching little explorers not only discover the joy of swimming but also learn to stay safe and begin self-rescue is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do. My goal is to create a fun, patient, and positive learning environment where swimmers of all ages feel motivated, comfortable, and ready to achieve the extraordinary!
